Differences of Retention time and Archive time Retention and Archive times are controlled separate settings. Backup retention is the time period that every single change between backups is kept for every backup taken. If Retention time is a long period it will accumulate quite some storage space. It is common to set Retention period long in nough to be able to recover data just before virus infection or other mishap that requires data restore that is in most cases 2 weeks to 1 month is sufficient to discover and recover from such events. The Archive time is on the other hand consolidated version of the Retention, where data is consolidated to only fractions of the changes and consolidates the data to fewer recoverable points in time. For ie. accounting information in Iceland is to be kept for 7 years, then it is sensible to set up the following Archive settings: once a month for one year and yearly for 7 years. but these settings should be adjusted to what ever applicable values for different types of data and requirements Here below an typical accounting selection is shown: Retention settings
